Profile

We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to apply for Core and Specialty Training posts in the South West Peninsula Deanery commencing from August 2012. The South West Peninsula Deanery was established on 1 April 2005 and is responsible for the commissioning and quality assurance of postgraduate medical and dental education and training across Devon and Cornwall. It provides support for GP Training, Foundation Training, Core Training and Specialty Training for all trainees within the Peninsula.

The vision of the Deanery is to promote the delivery of high quality patient care through the provision of a highly skilled medical workforce. The aim is for this workforce to be skilled in all aspects of patient care and be equipped to develop and modify their knowledge and skills in line with the changing needs of the service in the future. This means that all doctors completing training in the South West Peninsula should be fit to practise, fit for purpose and able to adapt.

We are proud to provide high quality well supervised training based in an environment of outstanding natural beauty in Devon and Cornwall. We have active Postgraduate Specialty Schools which provide hands on quality control to all posts and have a strong partnership with the Peninsula Medical School.

If you choose to come and train with us you will have the opportunity to live and work in one of the most beautiful parts of the United Kingdom. There is no better place for an active outdoor lifestyle with an excellent climate. The unspoilt beaches along the North Devon and North Cornwall coasts provide some of the UK’s best surf breaks, whilst the picturesque South Coast provides the backdrop for some great sailing and windsurfing. The spectacular moorland of Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor, along with the South West Coastal Path, provide limitless possibilities for hikers, climbers and mountain bikers.

For those more attracted to urban living, Exeter and Plymouth offer you the chance to live in vibrant, historic and multicultural university cities, with excellent links to the rest of the country (Exeter to London Paddington is only two hours by train). There are plenty of smaller towns and villages to choose from for those who prefer a quieter life. In the South West Peninsula you will have the opportunity to mix and match lifestyle choices and undertake high quality, well regulated core medical training. Apply to the South West Peninsula Deanery for quality of training and quality of life.
