Profile

The Northern Deanery is different...
People who do their specialty training in the Northern Deanery get much more than just high quality training. In addition to our first class exam preparation, excellent clinical and academic supervision and the breadth of experience provided, we offer excellent personal support.

We've tailored our training here to help you achieve a good work/life balance in our fantastic region which boasts a unique geography. How many other training programmes enable you to finish a shift and catch a wave, hit the shops (and afford it - our cost of living is the lowest in the country) or go seal watching in the evening...and still pass your professional examinations?

In the 2010 General Medical Council annual trainee survey, the Northern Deanery was ranked 2nd amongst English deaneries for overall satisfaction. 80% of trainees rated the quality of supervision as ‘excellent' or ‘good'. 93% of trainees indicated they would recommend the Northern Deanery.

What our trainees say:

"If I was to describe my experience in the Northern Deanery in one phrase, it would be "second to none""
"The quality of the teaching is excellent, inspirational, supportive and fun!"
"Because the North East is such a great place to live, it makes work that little bit easier, even on the bad days!"
