Profile
The North Western Deanery has a reputation for providing high quality training and is renowned for its friendly atmosphere. Trainees coming to the Deanery have the opportunity to work in a broad range of hospitals allowing them to gain a wealth of experience in routine conditions as well as more rare presentations. We have an active flexible training programme scheme which allows eligible trainees to work less than full time. In addition all of our programmes allow time out of programme for research, career development or overseas aid.
The Deanery is known for being innovative. For example it established the first ever integrated clinical leadership programme, working to the ‘Medical Leadership Competency Framework’. This is accredited to MSc level and delivered alongside the NHS Graduate Management Training Schemes to promote joint working between medical and management workforces.
The Deanery has strong links with the Universities of Manchester and Lancaster – in no small part due to the success of our Academic Clinical Fellow and Clinical Lectureship programmes - and has set up a Postgraduate Certificate in Workplace Based Postgraduate Medical Education in conjunction with Edge Hill University. All our higher trainees have the first module funded for them by the Deanery, giving them the skills to work as a clinical supervisor. We also have an active Careers Section which can be accessed via our website..
