As a Specialty Trainee in Mersey Deanery you can be certain of the highest quality training, supervision and support. Our training is of the highest quality ensuring the local community receives the best possible care. The Mersey Deanery commissions Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education in Cheshire and Merseyside, covering 2000 posts.
Recruitment is managed locally, through lead employers. Further details and guidance information is available at: www.merseydeanery.nhs.uk We provide support for GP Training, Foundation Training, Core Training and Specialty Training for all trainees within Cheshire and Merseyside. The Deanery is part of the North West Strategic Health Authority and is under the direction of the Postgraduate Dean, Professor David Graham. The vision of the Deanery is improving health and care through education.
General Practice
Mersey Deanery is a relatively small and compact Deanery and consequently provides a personal service to trainees and GP Registrars. We are explicitly trainee centred and we pride ourselves on being supportive and flexible. We have a wide range of flexible training options available. The personal approach that our staff take with our trainees, coupled with its exciting and culturally diverse location, makes the Mersey Deanery a unique and innovative place to train.
Public Health
The North West School is the largest specialty training school for Public Health outside of London and is hosted by the Mersey Deanery. The North West School of Public Health will recruit nine new Specialty trainees in 2010 from medical and non-medical backgrounds
Flexible Training
Many more doctors are now considering part time working arrangements at certain stages of their careers in order to achieve a better work/life balance. Flexible training or Less Than Full Time training (LTFT) is available to trainees who meet the eligibility criteria set out under European legislation. The eligibility criteria can be found on the Deanery website.

Recruitment timetables by school (academic, GP etc) The main round for recruitment to Academic Clinical Fellows commences 17th October 2011 with the standard national advert. Application closing date will be 14th November 2011. Specialty Training for August 2012 will commence with the national advert on 12th November 2011.
