The HRB CENTRE FOR PRIMARY CARE RESEARCH is a multidisciplinary collaborative Programme between the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Trinity College Dublin and Queen’s University Belfast.

This 5-year Programme aims to examine the quality of care across the primary/secondary care interface in vulnerable patient groups and to develop Information and Communication Technology (ICT) interventions to improve the care they receive. This Programme will also develop a register of Clinical Prediction Rules (CPRs) for use in Primary Care that will be disseminated through the Cochrane Primary Health Care field.

SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW REF: HR8066

The Senior Research Fellow will be based in RCSI and will have responsibility for supporting the Principal Investigator in co-ordinating the Programme, with lead responsibility for the co-ordination of all work packages (WP1 medicines management, WP2 evidence-based diagnosis and WP3 ICT). Applicants should hold an Epidemiology, Public Health or Science based PhD, with a minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in
research and a good understanding of ICT.

3 RESEARCH FELLOWS IN HEALTH SERVICE RESEARCH

Each Research Fellow in HSR will be based in RCSI and will have the responsibility for supporting a specific work package (see application reference below). Applicants should hold an Epidemiology or Health related postgraduate qualification with a minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in research.

REF: WP1 (Research Fellow for Work Package 1)

Clinical diagnosis, management and co-ordination of care in vulnerable patient groups in the Community. This incorporates patients with multiple chronic illnesses, the elderly, pregnant women, children and drug users.

REF: WP2 (Research Fellow for Work Package 2)

Evidence-based diagnosis in primary care. Development of a register of Clinical Prediction Rules (CPRs), systematic reviews of diagnostic accuracy studies and primary research in the development, validation and impact analysis of CPRs in primary care.

REF: WP3 (Research Fellow for Work Package 3)

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in primary care. This work package is designed to develop and implement clinical knowledge sources - Computerised Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSSs), decision aid for patients and generate comparative clinical data for quality improvement.

RESEARCH FELLOW IN INFORMATION AND
COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) REF: ICT

The Research Fellow in ICT will be based in RCSI and TCD and will have the responsibility for supporting Work Package 3: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in primary care. This work package is designed to develop and implement clinical knowledge sources - Computerised Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSSs), decision aid for
patients and generate comparative clinical data for quality improvement.

Applicants should hold a Health Informatics or Informatics related postgraduate qualification, with a minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in research.

RESEARCH FELLOW IN THE PRACTICE OF PHARMACY

The Research Fellow in the Practice of Pharmacy will be based in Queen’s University Belfast and will have the responsibility of supporting Work Package 1 & 3.
