The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) is coordinating the recruitment process for all obstetrics and gynaecology training posts for England and Wales.

Profile

The RCOG is dedicated to the encouragement of the study and the advancement of the science and practice of obstetrics and gynaecology. Obstetrics and gynaecology is a wide-ranging specialty, and the training programme is extensive. The RCOG was one of the first Colleges to have its curriculum for run-through training approved by PMETB, and the training programme has clear milestones and opportunities for personal career development. The RCOG is committed to recruitment and retention, to supporting the clinical learning environment, and to supporting its members, the last via a pioneering mentoring scheme.

MMC Recruitment responsibilities

Coordination of the application process into obstetrics and gynaecology is delegated to the RCOG. All recruitment to posts at ST1, ST2, ST3 and the equivalent FTSTA/LAT levels is managed through the use of the recruitment website, which can be found at https://obsjobs.rcog.org.uk/ This system allows candidates to apply directly to a maximum of two deaneries, whilst still ranking other deaneries for which they may wish to be considered should they be unsuccessful in securing a post in one of their first two choices. Vacancies will be available in all deaneries in England and Wales – for full details please see the recruitment website in mid-December. The harmonised recruitment system has the advantage of allowing candidates to apply to multiple deaneries through a single portal.
Person specifications for obstetrics and gynaecology can be found on the MMC website at
http://www.mmc.nhs.uk/default.aspx?page=478#Runthrough.

Recruitment procedures

Full details of the recruitment procedure can be found at the recruitment website https://obsjobs.rcog.org.uk. This site will be updated in mid-December with information pertaining to the January 2009 recruitment round. Adverts will be published in the BMJ and on the RCOG website in early January. Any queries should be sent via the e-mail address obsjobs@rcog.org.uk.
