Profile

Wales is a relatively small country. This compact country offers something for everyone, from cosmopolitan towns and cities to stunning coastal locations with wind and water sports on hand. It even has its own language although it is not necessary to learn it to pursue training, employment or a lifestyle here. With affordable housing and welcoming communities it is an ideal place to achieve a worklife balance.

Wales is alive with the presence of both contemporary and more traditional culture and a high profile presence in sports and music. Its rail, road and air networks give swift access to many major UK towns and cities.

Wales is covered by a single Deanery and has developed an approach to career development which puts high quality training at the heart of medical careers, from the foundation doctor’s first job, through specialty training on to Consultant or General Practitioner. Early career trainees can indicate regional preferences between North, Mid and South West and South East Wales, whilst all trainees are supported by Specialty Training Schools, Regional Training Committees and a network of well-equipped Postgraduate Education Centres within teaching hospitals. Higher specialist training includes access to a full funded generic curriculum covering topics such as teaching, ethics, law and leadership.
