This is a truly exciting time for Public Health Wales. Established in 2009,
our mandate is to protect and improve health and wellbeing and reduce
health inequalities across the nation.

We run some of the world’s leading screening programmes and our 1000
Lives improvement service is known worldwide. We’ve also attracted
international interest in the way we worked with others to manage the
largest measles outbreak since the introduction of the MMR vaccine.

But we are always looking to do better. Last year Public Health Wales
published a new strategy setting out clear priorities for action across all
its divisions including Health and Healthcare Improvement. Public Health
Wales also published Transforming Health Improvement in Wales which
is the product of a review of Health Improvement and its associated
programmes in Wales and was published in September 2013. Public
Health Wales is currently overseeing the implementation of the report’s

We are now seeking two outstanding individuals to lead the Health
Improvement Agenda within the organisation. The three individuals will
have responsibility for leading the agenda and programmes associated
with them for either ‘Older People’ or ‘Mental Health and Vulnerable
Groups’. You will be working closely with the Director of Health and
Healthcare Improvement, Consultants in Public Health, senior colleagues
within Public Health Wales and colleagues in partner organisation.

You will be expected to provide specialist expertise and leadership within
the field of Health and Healthcare Improvement with the focus on driving
the implementation of the Health Improvement Review within Public
Health Wales. You will also develop powerful relationships with partners
and stakeholders to influence the public health agenda on a large scale.

The successful individuals will have significant experience of public
health practice at a very senior level and can demonstrate highly
developed influencing, negotiation and motivation skills to drive
transformational change within the Health Improvement agenda
across Wales. The post-holder must be on the GMC/GDC Specialist
Register/UK Voluntary Register for Public Health Specialists or within
6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.
