Temporary Consultant Vascular Surgeon

Waterford Regional Hospital is a major teaching hospital of University College Cork, and is one of two Model 4 hospitals in the Southern Hospital Group looking after a total population of 1.2m. The hospital is the South Eastern Emergency, Trauma and Cancer centre and has a full range of both medical and surgical subspecialties.

This is one of three vascular posts in the South Eastern Region which has a catchment population of 497,578 (Census 2011). Vascular patient referrals are received from St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny, South Tipperary General Hospital and Wexford General Hospital. There is a large population of dialysis patients (150+) whom are currently awaiting arterio-venous fistula formation (upward of 100 procedures per year are anticipated). The Vascular service has 3 full day operating lists and emergency theatre access each day. The vascular rota is currently one in three on-call but it is anticipated that a fourth Consultant Vascular post will be progressed in the near future.

The successful applicant will join two other Consultant Vascular Surgeons who are part of a Department of General Surgery consisting of 8 Consultants. There are two Consultant Interventional Radiologists who support the delivery of a modern vascular service.
