This 12 month post, commencing in July 2014, is for a highly  motivated, ambitious post-CCT GUM fellow wishing to increase their breadth of training to incorporate aspects of community  gynaecology, complex contraception care, pelvic ultrasound and to become a Faculty of Sexual Health and Reproductive Healthcare recognised Trainer (FRT) for the Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare and their Letters of Competence in Subdermal Implants and Intrauterine Techniques. Training will be provided in our integrated multidisciplinary sexual health service, which is a specialist, comprehensive community-based service,  located in Newcastle city centre.

You will work 10 sessions per week, including clinics in Genitourinary Medicine, HIV, Contraception, IUS/IUD Management, Psychosexual Counselling and Community Gynaecology. You will also undertake the necessary training needed to be awarded PGA Med Ed (SRH) - the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare’s teaching qualification, which leads to becoming a Faculty Registered Trainer. This nationally recognised qualification allows doctors to train other medical/nursing professionals. You will attend community gynaecology/gynaecology clinics twice weekly for 12 months, gaining experience in the management of those with  complex contraception needs, menstrual disorders pelvic pain and gynaecological endocrinology. To gain experience in pelvic  ultrasound you will take a Faculty of Sexual Health and Reproductive Medicine/RCOG accredited course.

You must be a fully registered medical practitioner, will have  completed specialty training in genitourinary medicine and will be on the GMC’s Specialist Register. You will hold the Diploma in Genitourinary Medicine, HIV Medicine and Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. You will also hold Letters of Competence in Subdermal Contraceptive Implants and Intrauterine Techniques.
