An opportunity has arisen to recruit two Consultant Occupational Physicians to NHS Occupational Health Services in the North of Scotland. Both NHS Grampian’s and NHS Highland’s Occupational Health Services operate in mixed urban and remote and rural environments with progressive multidisciplinary teams, delivering services to both NHS and external clients. The services are seeking to develop opportunities for collaborative work on future business and continuous improvement of quality occupational health provision in this beautiful area of Scotland.
The details of the posts are as follows:
The post, within NHS Highland, is based on the Raigmore Hospital site. Raigmore Hospital is a modern district general hospital with approximately 500 beds which serves a catchment area of almost 10,000 square miles covering the entire Scottish Highlands, and a catchment population of c 250,000 (350,000 for tertiary care). www.nhshighland.scot.nhs.uk
Together with one other Consultant colleague and a speciality trainee, clinical duties will include management referrals, self referrals, health surveillance, ill health retirement advice, and post job offer health assessments. NHS Highland Occupational Health Service is a modern multidisciplinary team including occupational health nurse specialists, CBT and EMDR specialists, physiotherapy and a business, administrative and IT team. As well as providing occupational health services to NHS Highland staff, a broad range of external work is undertaken on a commercial basis with other employers and through sub contract arrangements with other private and NHS occupational health providers. The post, within NHS Grampian, is based on the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary site. This teaching hospital has around 900 beds and is a tertiary referral centre serving a population of over 600,000 across the North of Scotland. www.nhsgrampian.co.uk
We have a number of bases including Elgin, in Moray and Kirkwall in Orkney. Together with one other Consultant colleague and a medical team, clinical duties will include management referrals, self referrals, health surveillance, ill health retirement advice, and post job offer health assessments. The service is a teaching and training department with links to the University of Aberdeen. Teaching and clinical research are encouraged.

We provide occupational health services to NHS Grampian and staff and a broad range of external work is undertaken on a commercial basis with other employers and through sub contract arrangements with other private and NHS occupational health providers. Health Working Lives specialists provide workplace visits and advice on occupational health, safety and wellbeing and the Working Health Service team provide a free, rapid access service to Occupational Health Services for employees of businesses of less than 250 personnel
Applicants must hold full Registration with a license to practise with the GMC and be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a CCT at the time of interview.
