Dunedin Hospital’s Gastroenterology Department welcomes applications for the position of Consultant Gastroenterologist with an expected start date of May 2014. Hours of work and length of employment will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Dunedin Hospital has 350 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 180,000 spread over the lower South Island. Southern DHB offers gastroenterology services in both its main hospitals located in Dunedin and Invercargill, with outpatient clinics in other areas of the district. As such, some travel may be required for out-patient work.
In this role you will participate in a 1:4 on-call roster and provide a full range of gastroenterology services. Planning is currently underway to develop services and expand the department, so there will be opportunities to contribute to this development. Opportunities for laboratory and clinical based research are also available. To be successful in this role, you will need to have enthusiasm for teaching and be a team player with a commitment to improving and developing service delivery quality.
Dunedin Hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Otago and has all major specialties including interventional cardiology and an acute stroke service on site. Dunedin provides tertiary level care in neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery, and the region is well served by an excellent helicopter retrieval service.
Appointed specialists will possess the RACP or an equivalent qualification. Trainees within a few months of completing RACP training are welcome to express an interest.
