The Emergency Department in Leicester has transformed the way Medical Education is delivered in the past 18 months, following £500,000 of funding from the SHA in May 2012. A recent LETB visit highlighted the positive changes in education and training within the department.
The appointed applicants will be pivotal in the continued development and success of this project within the area of Adult, Paediatric and Geriatric Emergency Medicine. They will join the ED Educational Team, led by the Post Graduate Educational Lead for Emergency Medicine, who is responsible for overseeing the education of all grades of medical staff within the department, additionally working with the Paediatric Emergency Medicine Educational Lead or the Geriatric Emergency Medicine Medical Education Lead. This project links with the UHL Educational Strategy under the direction of the Medical Director and Associate Medical Director for Education.
The Fellow in Adult, Paediatric or Geriatric Medical Education will play a key role within the Education Team in developing and delivering the relevant Emergency Medicine educational programme to all levels of training grades within the department. The Leicester Emergency Department section of the East Midlands LETB Moodle (VLE) has been developed over the past year and has created a blended learning approach to Emergency Medicine Education. This innovative project has been recognised by the LETB and is transforming education. You will continue the development of this programme in Adult, Paediatric or Geriatric Emergency Medicine.
Other resources available include a simulation area within the Emergency Department, the Trust’s simulation skills centre, a dedicated e-learning facility within the Emergency Department and two new state of the art ultrasound machines.
