The 21 National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Clinical Studies Groups (CSGs) have a remit to  develop portfolios of trials for specific cancer types or treatment approaches.This includes  overseeing the portfolio of existing studies, considering new research questions, developing  proposals and securing funding from NCRI members. The CSGs are multi-disciplinary, with surgery, medical oncology, clinical oncology, radiology, pathology, epidemiology, statistics and other  professions involved in clinical trials, represented on each Group as appropriate. Each CSG meets at least twice a year and a number of the Groups have subgroups and/or working parties, which meet in the intervals between the main Group meetings. Many of the Groups also host national clinical trials meetings of between 100 and 450 delegates.

Appointment to a CSG is for three years in the first instance, and membership can be considered as national work. This is a voluntary, not a remunerated position.

All applicants need to be able to demonstrate experience of collaborative clinical trials activity in a leadership  capacity, success in trial accrual to national studies, links with cancer research networks and an enthusiasm and  commitment to developing cancer research. Members should be prepared to contribute fully to the work of a Group, including attending subgroup / working party meetings as appropriate. Please note that  members may serve on more than one CSG concurrently.
