Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Consultant

Wellington, New Zealand

We are growing our sub-regional otolaryngology and head and neck positions across Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHBs.

This 0.9 position will also include 1:8 on-call provision for general ENT based at Wellington Hospital.

This role will be across Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Wellington communities with a combined population of approximately 450,000, and is served by 8 otolaryngologists. There are also two trainee otolaryngology registrars and two non-trainee registrars, so teaching is integral to the role. This role is to contribute to the existing head and neck multidisciplinary service including benign and malignant head and neck disease e.g. laryngeal and oral cancer, neck dissection and thyroid and parotid surgery.

There is a co-located well developed plastic surgery unit which provides reconstructive options, therefore free flap skills are not essential, but desired.

This role will also encompass general otolaryngology and an interest in Laryngology would be an advantage.

It is essential that the successful candidate possess a high level of communication and people skills to be able to work within a team environment as this is crucial to integrated head and neck care. There is sub-regional development in progress and this role is part of that.

You must hold vocational registration, or be eligible for vocational registration in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand and to have fellowship level experience of advanced head and neck surgery is essential.
