Psychiatrist and Senior Lecturer in Psychological Medicine

The Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Otago, Christchurch, in association with the Canterbury District Health Board seeks applicants interested in a Senior Lecturer position specialising in Clinical Psychiatry in the area of Adult Mental Health services.

This position involves working with a large and diverse group of teachers and researchers; undertaking research activities; contributing to the teaching and assessment of Undergraduate Medical Students and Doctors registered for the Registrar Training Programme and Postgraduate Programmes; undertaking service activities for the University; as well as providing service commitments as a Clinical Psychiatrist by taking clinical responsibility for Specialist Psychiatric Assessment and treatment to clients of the Adult Mental Health Services.

The appointee should have a capacity for top quality research, with the ability to attract funding, be an enthusiastic teacher who enjoys and excels in teaching Undergraduates and be able to relate well to Undergraduate Students. They will have, or be developing, good skills in the supervision of students. The ability to work co-operatively in and take a clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team is essential.

Applicants must also meet vocational registration as a Specialist Psychiatrist in order to be able to practise within the clinical Mental Health Division of the Canterbury District Health Board and have demonstrated proficiency in clinical service. The successful applicant will not need to come from any specific subdiscipline of Psychiatry, but applicants in General Adult Psychiatry will be prioritised.
