Medical Director

Attractive salary plus relocation package South Wales

We’re looking for an ambitious and outstanding Medical Director to join one of the largest providers of integrated health care in the UK; providing leadership to a team of 1,200 doctors, advancing clinical excellence and developing clinical research.

As a Health Board in Wales we are ambitious for the communities we serve and determined to uphold the fundamental values of the NHS. ABM University Health Board is responsible for the integrated health and healthcare of over 500,000 people. We have a budget of over £1 billion, and employ 16,000 staff. We deliver tertiary, acute, intermediate, mental health, community and primary care services to people in Swansea, Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot, and beyond. Our Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery is also responsible for patients in the South West of England.

We are research-driven, working in close partnership with Swansea University, its College of Medicine and the Institute of Life Science. As Medical Director, you’ll work alongside 500 Consultants, many of whom have key research roles, along with 150 non-training grade medics and 550 GPs.

We are also passionate about delivering excellence in clinical services and taking early action to promote and protect health and independence. Our Changing for the Better Programme is transforming clinical models and developing and implementing a sustainable long-term clinical and service strategy.

As an Executive Director you will provide strong leadership and guidance to the Board across a range of key areas including clinical governance and performance, medical education and research and development. You will be the lead Board Director for patient safety. You will work in partnership with clinical leaders to drive improvements in health outcomes and reduce health inequalities across our communities. With an impressive track record as a clinical leader you will need to be able to demonstrate credibility and influence at Board level and ambition to inspire our clinical community.

Should you join us, you will be living and working in a culturally rich environment which includes a strong sporting heritage and the UK’s first designated area of outstanding natural beauty.
