North Middlesex University Hospital
OUR TRUST IS RAPIDLY EXPANDING,
COME AND BE PART OF OUR TEAM
North Middlesex University Hospital, the major District General Hospital of North London, is expanding from a 400-bed to a 560-bed hospital in November 2013 as a result of health services reconfiguration in the area. This is a busy and ambitious Hospital Trust with full Care Quality Commission registration and a modern hospital building that opened in 2010.
We are now seeking to appoint 7 dynamic and talented consultants who are looking for the satisfaction of making a real difference in a busy inner-city London university hospital. This is the first tranche in a phased increase in our consultant staffing numbers.
Posts 1-2: CONSULTANTS IN INTENSIVE CARE MEDICINE x2 – Ref. MD-1120
These posts have arisen as part of our advanced expansion plans for critical care. The Critical Care Complex in the hospital includes an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and an adjacent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) for intermediate care. ICU is currently funded for 7-8 beds but has a total of 8 individual rooms with single beds and 2 large rooms with 2 beds each, all of which are fully equipped, with full monitoring facilities and a central monitoring station. PCU has 11 beds including 3 single rooms and two 4 bedded bays.
The plan is to increase the fully commissioned ICU beds to 8 single rooms and 2 double rooms, and the PCU beds from 11 to 15. Our current Critical Care Complex admissions of about 1200 patients annually will also increase with the full implementation of the reconfiguration in this area. We are therefore keen to appoint two new consultants in intensive care to implement successfully the expansion of the critical care department. Those with a special interest in acute medicine, anaesthesia or other relevant specialty are welcome to apply.
For further information or to arrange an informal visit please contact Dr Jeronimo Moreno Cuesta – Lead Clinician on 020 8887 2370 or Mr Eddie Lamuren – Clinical Director on 020 8887 2303.
Posts 3–5: CONSULTANTS IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE x3 – Ref. MD-1121.
Post 6: CONSULTANT IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE (with special interest in Paediatrics) – Ref. MD-1122
These posts have arisen partly as a strategic drive to increase our consultant staffing numbers in Accident & Emergency, and partly in response to the rapidly changing emergency care agenda in the NHS. It presents an exciting opportunity for a group of enthusiastic consultants to join us and contribute to the innovative redesign of our emergency services. The A&E department which is housed in our new hospital complex incorporates an Urgent Care Centre and a dedicated children’s A&E area, in addition to an ultra-modern, state of the art, airconditioned emergency department with 8 streaming rooms, a separate see and treat area, a 12-bay minors area, a 12-bay majors area, and a 6-bay resuscitation area. In 2012, we started receiving higher trainees on rotation to the department, and 4 higher trainees are scheduled to rotate to the unit in August 2013. A 48-bed Acute Medical Unit is co-located with the department, and an Emergency Assessment Unit is due to open shortly.
For further information or to arrange an informal visit please contact Mr Eddie Lamuren – Clinical Director or Mr Anmar Alkhamesi – A&E Consultant/Trauma Director on 020 8887 2303
Post 7: CONSULTANT PHYSICIAN IN GERIATRIC MEDICINE – Ref. MD-1124
Applications are invited for a Consultant post in the Department of Medicine for the Elderly, joining the existing team of six. This post has arisen partly because of our overall consultant expansion to support health services reconfiguration in the area, and partly because of the secondment of one consultant to the Enfield Nursing Home project as part of our joint working with primary care. This role would have inpatient, community and acute components and we would welcome applicants with special interests. We are currently developing new models of care for delivering emergency services in the Trust, and this post will therefore also support the consultant led service for the Acute Medical unit.
For further information or to arrange an informal visit please contact Dr Nick Rollitt – Lead Clinician or Dr Maurice Cohen – Clinical Director on 020 8887 4311.
Full job descriptions for all our posts are available online at www.northmid.nhs.uk under the “Working for Us” section which directs visitors to where applications should be made under the appropriate reference number. We offer attractive relocation assistance and comprehensive support packages for professional development to all new consultant appointees.
