Dean, School of Public Health, University of Alberta

The University of Alberta’s School of Public Health is the only standalone Faculty of its kind in Canada, and the first in Canada to earn full accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health. With 260 graduate students in MPH, MSc, and PhD programmes, 37 core and 90 affiliated faculty members, and 108 staff, the school is committed to preparing Public Health leaders, to community engagement, and to excellence in research and its translation into practices and policies. As the school takes its place among distinguished Public Health schools worldwide, a new era begins, and the University of Alberta seeks its next Dean of the School of Public Health. The appointment, for an initial five-year term, begins on 1st July 2013.

The Dean, who reports to the Provost and Vice-president (Academic), is Senior Officer of the Faculty, and is responsible for the supervision and administration of the school's operations, including budget and fund development. The Dean fosters an environment in which world-leading research and excellence in teaching and engaged scholarship flourish. As the face of the School of Public Health, the Dean is champion of Public Health education, research and practice, and leads the school in sustaining and continuing its critical role with stakeholders in Public Health dialogue. As a member of the Deans' Council, the Dean is a senior university administrator.

The University of Alberta in Edmonton is one of Canada’s top teaching and research universities, with an international reputation for excellence across the humanities, sciences, creative arts, business, engineering, and health sciences. The U of A offers close to 400 rigorous Undergraduate, Graduate, and professional programmes in 18 Faculties on five campuses - including one rural and one francophone campus. The university has approximately 243,000 alumni worldwide. The university and its people remain dedicated to the promise made in 1908 by founding president Henry Marshall Tory that knowledge shall be used for “uplifting the whole people.”
