Applications are invited for a one year Fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology commencing 8 April 2013 (with the possibility of a further year) at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand. Applications for a starting date later in mid-2013 may be considered.
This post offers a unique opportunity for training in all aspects of Cardiac Electrophysiology. The Fellow will work with three Electrophysiologists at Waikato, Learning Diagnostic Electrophysiology, Ablation techniques (including Atrial Fibrillation Ablation, Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation and Complex 3D Mapping Techniques), Implantable Electronic Cardiac Device Implants and Management, and the outpatient and inpatient management of Arrhythmias, etc in a friendly and supportive environment. The successful candidate will also be expected to take part in an outpatient clinic each week, be involved in teaching of junior staff and undertake research. Preference may be given to candidates who plan to enrol in a Postgraduate medical degree. Candidates will have completed their advanced training in Cardiology (FRACP, MRCP (UK) or equivalent) and will have been in Specialist Training in Cardiology for a minimum of two to three years. Some experience in Device Implantation and Electrophysiology studies is an advantage. The candidate will require full or temporary registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
Waikato Hospital is a Teaching Hospital and is a Tertiary Referral Centre for much of the North Island with a catchment of 900,000 people. It provides Tertiary Cardiac Services for 12 referring District General Hospitals, three of which have Diagnostic Cardiac Catheter capability. Cardiology on-call is divided between four teams of Junior Doctors and 12 Consultants. There is a fully equipped CCU, with two further dedicated Cardiology wards, and an average of 54 inpatients, excluding post-operative cases.
