Joint Director of Public Health
Newham, Hackney and the City of London
£100-£120k
Are you a leader with the vision to shape the way public health is delivered across East London, influencing regionally and nationally?
Newham, Hackney and the City of London are seeking a passionate and influential Director, who will be at the forefront of developing public health for the communities of East London.
Our communities are fascinating places to practise public health. Diverse and vibrant, our young populations and exciting heritages each present a unique set of challenges. The scale of challenge across east London requires a new ‘whole system’ way of working, mobilising organisations to embed change.
You will be a registered public health professional, with confidence and excellent networking and negotiation skills. You will influence well beyond the traditional public health brief – working to improve the determinants of health and tackle traditionally ‘intractable’ problems.
We are committed to realising the benefits that cross border and cross sector working can bring, and already play a central role in partnerships locally. To be successful you will have the skills and sensitivity to deliver through extensive partnerships and to manage within the new environment of public health in local government. You will also be a strong role model for the public health community in leadership and joint working.
The position is a full-time post with lead responsibility for Local Authority public health responsibilities, including the core offer to the local Clinical Commissioning Groups. We want to ensure you have the time to work with key decision makers – pushing our health improvement agendas forward. This means leading strategically rather than being tied down by traditional line management and budget responsibility. Your status as our health improvement champion will make you well placed to assert your professional views to a variety of organisations including healthcare providers, voluntary sector groups and community groups – securing tangible improvements in health.
Our communities are changing rapidly, presenting huge opportunities. The Olympic legacy and continuing regeneration has created a great base to build from, we now need a public health leader to deliver lasting improvements.
