The Medical Defence Union (MDU) is the leading medical defence organisation within the UK. Our hallmark is the excellence of our professional services. We wish to appoint an enthusiastic, high calibre clinician as an additional member of our claims handling team. The post will be suitable for doctors with full GMC registration.
As an MDU Doctor you will be based in our London office handling medical negligence claims on behalf of MDU members. Your medical knowledge and experience will be put to constant use when liaising with (and reassuring) members facing litigation, assessing clinical aspects of the case, exploring the merits of any allegations, and selecting and co-ordinating teams of medical experts and lawyers.
In addition, the successful applicant will receive training covering medical law and technical issues, as this role involves all aspects of claims handling. This includes assimilating, presenting and challenging advice and information on medico-legal issues throughout all stages of the legal process.
You will, in time, become involved in providing telephone advice to members who call the MDU’s 24-hour helpline. This involves out of hours cover undertaken on the telephone from home.
We offer full in-house training for the position, and potential support with external courses relevant to the post.
