Dunedin Hospital, New Zealand
Our Older People’s Health Service is pleased to invite applications for a full time Consultant Geriatrician to work at Dunedin Hospital.
The Service provides a combination of Inpatient, Outpatient and Day Hospital Services to clients in both the greater Dunedin and Otago/Southland area. Using a team approach, we provide comprehensive services for people with age-related health problems (eg Stroke, Fractured Neck or Femur, Delirium and Cognitive Impairment). We maintain a close liaison with all other Hospital and Community Services with a particular emphasis on Mental Health Services for Older People, Needs Assessment and Service Co-ordination Service and Orthopaedics.
This age-related AT&R Service is not only integrated in terms of service-delivery, but is also located in one hospital and is adjacent to all other hospital specialties serving the same catchment. This provides opportunity for functional integration with other Dunedin Hospital services, especially Acute Medical and Surgical Services.
The objective is to enable patients to achieve the highest possible level of independence (i.e. remain in the community as long as possible) so emphasis is on:
ï¶ promoting ‘wellness’, independence and participation
ï¶ close liaison with community services
ï¶ comprehensive discharge planning
Close links are maintained with the University of Otago’s School of Medicine, which supports the education of a wide range of Health Professionals.
Our current team consists of the Clinical Leader, along with four other Senior Medical Staff, one of whom is jointly employed by the University of Otago, Three Registrars and three House Officers. We are looking for someone who is excited about developing a vision for the future of the Service. To enjoy this role you’ll need to have an enthusiasm for teaching, be committed to quality service delivery and development, and be able to work effectively as a Senior Clinician within a Multidisciplinary Team.
Dunedin is a great little city with a big town feel, and well-known for its southern hospitality. If you’re considering a move down South feel free to talk to us about the job, the good schools, the University of Otago, and the recreational potential which Dunedin and its surrounds possess.
Closing date: Open.
