British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence, University of Oxford

The BHF Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) at Oxford is a world leading centre for research into cardiovascular disease. Under the leadership of Prof Hugh Watkins, the CRE brings together 37 world leading clinical and laboratory research groups, based in 10 University Departments and Centres. Research themes include cardiovascular genetics, cardiac developmental biology, medicinal chemistry, cardiac imaging, epidemiology & clinical trials, cardiovascular electrophysiology, vascular biology and myocardial biology (for further information see www.cardioscience.ox.ac.uk/bhf-centre-of-research-excellence).

A number of Clinical Research Training Fellowships will be funded, on a competitive basis, by the BHF CRE in Oxford. The aim of the Fellowship programme is to provide high quality research training in basic and translational cardiovascular science for talented clinicians who aspire to a career in academic medicine.

Applications are invited from clinicians wishing to undertake a DPhil (PhD) with a focus on cardiovascular science. It is envisaged that those we appoint will have a BSc (2:1 minimum), a medical degree and some specialist experience (typically having obtained MRCP or equivalent, but not CCT or consultant status). Applicants must comply with BHF residency requirements i.e. should normally be a national of the EEA.

Information regarding research themes and the supervisors involved, together with application details and residency requirements, can be found at: http://www.cardioscience.ox.ac.uk/graduate-studies/crtf

Informal enquiries can be made, by email, to Prof Hugh Watkins (hugh.watkins@cardiov.ox.ac.uk) or Dr Ruth McCaffrey (ruth.mccaffrey@cardiov.ox.ac.uk).

The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday, 15th February 2013.
