The NHS Commissioning Board is responsible for the direct commissioning of specialised services from April 2013. The Medical Direcorate of the NHS CB will advise the Board on the strategic delivery of these services including defining service specifications (statement of primary objectives of a service) and clinical commissioning policy (consistent approach to access to specific services based on sound clinical evidence).
The Clinical Director for Specialised Services will seek advice from national service specific Clinical Reference Groups (CRG) that are led by a clinical chair and clinical members are drawn from the 12 areas forming NHS CB Clinical Senates. Please see the CRG Membership information at:

Applications for Clinical Members are open for all 75 Clinical Reference Groups through the CRG Membership page. Clinical members that formed CRGs during the transition year are encouraged to reapply. There will be 3 rounds of application until all of the 1050 positions are filled:
Round 1:7th - 31st January 2013.
Round 2:11th - 28th February 2013.
Round 3:11th - 22nd March 2013.
In addition the NHS CB seeks to appoint a Clinical Chair (from all clinical disciplines) for a three year term for each of the National Clinical Reference Groups listed below. Please apply through the CRG Membership web page: http://www.commissioningboard. nhs.uk/crg/
