This ten Programmed Activities (PAs) post will be based at the Department of Neurology, Southern General Hospital.
An Outreach Clinic Service will be provided and this will also involve ward visit sessions and availability for advice at other times during the working week. The appointee will provide General Neurology Services to locations within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde or other West of Scotland Hospitals.
A subspecialty interest in Epilepsy is essential. On-call for Acute Neurology admissions to the Southern General Hospital will be shared amongst approximately 15 Consultant colleagues.

Our hospitals and staff have a world-renowned reputation, backed up by a long tradition of excellence – antiseptic surgery and ultrasound, as well as many other innovations, were pioneered in our hospitals. Furthermore, we count on excellent undergraduate and postgraduate teaching facilities - supported by the world-famous University of Glasgow Medical School and Glasgow Caledonian University to educate and train the health professionals of the future.

Specialties and achievements

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde includes; the renowned Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, The Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Injuries unit, The Institute of Neurological Sciences, The Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital, The Duncan Guthrie Institute of Medical Genetics and the Ferguson-Smith Centre for Clinical Genetics, leading psychiatric centres for the treatment of addiction and a medium secure forensic psychiatric unit. In 2009 we opened two state of the art Ambulatory Care centres at Stobhill and the Victoria Hospitals, purpose-designed to deliver outpatient, day case, day surgical and minor injuries care.

Further resources are also being concentrated on three other sites (at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Gartnavel and Southern General Campuses) to create centres of excellence for surgical, medical and emergency care. One location in particular - the planned new South Glasgow Acute Hospital at the Southern General Campus- will be among the largest in the UK. A new specialist children’s hospital will also be located on the Southern site. The adult and children's hospital will be integrated within a single building, albeit with separate entrances and building identities.

Mental Health Services are also undergoing transformation with more than £100 million used to create new purpose-built facilities at three locations: Gartnavel Campus, Stobhill Campus and Southern General Campus. These offer second-to-none inpatient and day services, delivering the best possible care.

A new Laboratory Facility providing Biochemistry, Haematology, Pathology, Genetics and city wide mortuary services is planned for the Southern General Campus and is scheduled to open in 2011.

Local information
