NHS Commissioning Board

Major announcement of national appointments

National Clinical Directors to the NHS Commissioning Board

(24 posts)

The Heath and Social Care Act 2012 has led to the largest structural change to the NHS, since its inception and is designed to put clinicians firmly in the driving seat in the commissioning of high quality services. The independent NHS Commissioning Board will be taking over the day-to-day running of the NHS and now needs dynamic clinicians to take on these national roles to drive this transformation.

As National Clinical Directors, you will be vital to the organisation with a focus of improving outcomes for patients in line with the NHS Outcomes Framework and the priorities of the NHS Mandate. By engaging clinicians and patients, you’ll develop the key interventions that embedded as commissioning instruments, will really change behaviour and practice and overcome the barriers to best care.

You will derive consensus on the outcomes by which services should be measured and will set the levels of ambition for improvement. You will also work in concert to maximise coherent system change and reflect the 5 Domains of the Outcomes Framework (preventing premature death, enhancing quality for those with long term conditions, recovery from illness and injury, patient safety and patient experience) and to address health inequalities.

Communicating with patient groups, the Colleges and professional associations, NICE, Monitor, the Care Quality Commission, Public Health England, Health Education England and other groups will be paramount to promote best national and international working across subjects and disciplines.

You’ll be part of a dynamic organisation which will provide central support combined with local knowledge. Without question, this will be the biggest change to the NHS so it’s vital we recruit outstanding and ambitious clinicians from all disciplines, to these part-time roles, who share our belief in the opportunity that clinical leadership presents for transforming our health service.
