Consultant in Gastroenterology
(£74,504 - £100,446 plus London Weighting)
This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join the Gastroenterology Unit at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT).
BHRUT has gastroenterology departments on both the Queen’s and King George sites, with a full range of endoscopy investigations available. Queen’s hospital is an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening unit and has full JAG accreditation for the delivery of endoscopy training. King George hospital has opened a brand new purpose designed endoscopy unit this year.
We have a large population of patients with liver disease and an increasing number of patients with viral hepatitis. We are looking to expand local liver services and consolidate links with Barts and the London NHS Hepatology services. This post will join the existing part time hepatologist in developing liver services across all of our hospital sites with a focus on viral and alcoholic liver disease. The service has the support of a Clinical Nurse Specialist in viral hepatitis.
BHRUT is an upper and lower GI cancer centre seeing a significant proportion of London’s population with GI cancer. The Trust serves a large population of patients with inflammatory bowel disease and has an active clinical nutrition service.
All aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy, including stenting, APC services and ERCP are provided at both sites. In addition, endoscopic ultrasound and laser are available at Queen’s hospital. Recent service developments include video-capsule endoscopy and upper GI physiology.
You will be expected to contribute to the GI service at BHRUT by expanding the delivery of care for patients with liver diseases. Independent skills in diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy are essential. Participation in the out of hours emergency endoscopy service for GI bleeds at either site is included within the job plan.
