Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Devices at The James Cook University Hospital. This is a new post to meet the increasing demands on the Cardiac Rhythm Management Service. You should be experienced in Complex Cardiac Ablation Techniques, e.g. independent operator for AF and VT Ablation.
 You will join a team of 14 Cardiologists (including four with a special interest in Electrophysiology and Devices) in providing a comprehensive Adult Cardiothoracic Service to the population of Teesside, Durham and parts of Cumbria and North Yorkshire (population 1.6 million).
 The Electrophysiology Programme at The James Cook University Hospital commenced in 1998, and is seeing a rapid growth in referrals and procedures. The Programme is supported by a team of Specialist Nurse Practitioners and Physiologists, forming a Cardiac Rhythm Management Team, undertaking Pre- and Post-procedure Assessment, clinic support and counselling. Electrophysiology procedures take place in a dedicated Philips Biplane Catheter Laboratory, which has both St Jude Velocity and Biosense Webster Carto Mapping Systems installed.
 Recently rated as one of the best in the country for patient safety and one of the top 40 hospitals by CHKS for the tenth year running, the Trust is one of the largest Foundation Trusts in England. Working in the North East offers an excellent quality of life. This area boasts great transport links with easy access to a beautiful coastline/countryside and a great range of local amenities, shopping and nightlife.
 Applicants should possess full General Medical Council (GMC) registration, MRCP (or equivalent), and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.
 You will be appointed under the current Terms and Conditions of Service for NHS Consultants. Full consideration will be given to applicants who wish to apply for a reduced/part time contract.
