Ten Programmed Activities (PAs)
Reference: S1260
From 1st July 2012, Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Health Care NHS Trust and York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust became one organisation. The key aim of the integration is to strengthen Clinical Services, and ensure the delivery of the most comprehensive set of sustainable, quality services as close to the patient’s home as possible, and as such this represents an exciting development for the organisation.
The successful candidates will be based at Scarborough, which will be the East Coast region of the newly formed Trust. We strongly believe that the Partnership will offer excellent career and personal development opportunities for the postholders. It is expected that the successful candidates, along with other colleagues, will be actively involved in the future service configuration and development of the specialty in an organisation covering one of the largest geographical areas served by an NHS Trust.
The Trust is seeking two Consultant Cardiologists to replace two retiring Consultants at Scarborough Hospital at an exciting time for the Department, as the full range of both Invasive and Non-invasive elements of the Service develop across the two sites.
Scarborough Hospital has a five-bedded Coronary Care Unit, ten-bedded Step Down Unit, and a five-bedded Day Case Unit for Elective Angiography. There is an extensive range of Non-invasive investigations carried out in the Unit, including all types of Monitoring and Reveal Implants, TTE and TOE, a full range of Nuclear Cardiology tests, and Tilt Table Testing. A business case has been approved for a new 64 slice CT Scanner with software for Cardiac Calcium Scoring and CT Angiography, and we have Cardiac compatible MRI availability.
Invasive Services include single and dual chamber Pacemaker Implants (120-150 per year), and recently with the addition of a state of the art Modular Catheter Laboratory, and Diagnostic Angiography. This new facility is equipped for both Device Implantation and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI).
There is an opportunity for the successful candidates with a specialty interest in either Imaging/ECHO, or Device Implantation, to lead the Development of this aspect of the Service at Scarborough Hospital, in conjunction with colleagues at York Hospital.
The postholders would join the other existing Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Tim Houghton, at Scarborough and the five full time Cardiologists at York Hospital to undertake ten Programmed Activities (an additional one Programmed Activity is also available).
Candidates must possess MRCP or equivalent, full General Medical Council (GMC) registration, inclusion on GMC’s Specialist Register for Cardiology, or be within six months of attaining this at the date of interview.
Informal enquiries are encouraged, please contact: Dr T Houghton, Consultant in Cardiology, or Mrs Joanne Southwell, Directorate Manager, telephone: 01723 368111.

As such, applicants are required to be available on both 7th February 2013 and 8th February 2013. Closing date for applications: 13th January 2013.
