NHS Leeds

NHS Airedale, Bradford and Leeds Cluster (Leeds PCT)

Consultant in Public Health Medicine/Consultant in Public Health

Grade: NHS Consultant

(M&D dependent on experience and qualifications)

or NHS Agenda for Change Scale 8d

This full time post is a first class opportunity for a CPHM/CPH. We want you to become a key member of our outstanding team, and provide Public Health leadership at a time of uncertainty and change.

Leeds is a vibrant and wealthy city, yet there is significant and striking deprivation and ill health within Leeds. We are improving health and wellbeing, tackling health inequalities and transforming health services for the people of Leeds by working effectively with Partners.

Leeds PCT shares the same boundaries as Leeds City Council. It serves a population of 798,800, and has an annual budget of over one billion pounds, making it one of the largest PCTs in the country. There are three Clinical Commissioning Groups that will become responsible for commissioning healthcare services from April 2013; Public Health is fully integrated into their agendas.

The post will lead action on the wider determinants of health and health improvement through behaviour change in key priority work programmes:

  • healthy eating and nutrition, physical activity, and the City’s healthy lifestyle programme
  • workplace health, spatial planning, environment and transport.

The post will also lead the Public Health intelligence function including the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA).

You will support the Public Health Transition and development of the Public Health function of Leeds City Council as part of the Public Health Leadership Team. This will include supporting effective working with council members and directorates as well as ensuring all services and all parts of the Local Authority and NHS contribute to health promotion, protection, improvement, and reducing health inequalities. You will do work with the other Public Health Consultants to address the wider determinant of health across the whole Public Health function. You will also contribute towards ensuring there is effective partnership working at a local level, and ensuring effective team working in Public Health.

The post will transfer to Leeds City Council under TUPE arrangements on 31st March 2013.

Closing date: 28th December 2012 at 12 Midnight.

The PCT welcomes applications considering job share or flexible working.
