GP – Obstetric and Gynaecological experience

St Helena, South Atlantic

Two years’ FTC, proposed start date: March 2013 (flexible).

£70,000-£100,000 pa taxable in St Helena plus other non-taxable allowances.

A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic, with a warm and friendly population of 4,000, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK, poised for transformation with the imminent construction of an airport.

The 42-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of Acute Medical and Surgical Care.

Running clinics in the hospital and at other locations, as well as sharing in-patient duties, you will be a busy member of the on-call rota for Emergency Out Of Hours Care and also be a valued member of the Clinical Governance Committee. You will offer full Obstetric and Gynaecological Services including Caesarean sections, Colposcopies, Conus Biopsies, Wedge Resections and Endometrial Ablations, playing a central part in health promotion and preventative care programmes, in particular Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS awareness. If you are qualified and experienced in Anaesthetics, you will also collaborate with other GP Anaesthetists to provide Pre- and Post-operative Care.

Building and promoting a first-rate team within a multidisciplinary environment, you will train midwives, nurses and other healthcare workers, and participate in weekly CPD sessions with Medical Officers. You will also conduct audits of all deliveries and prepare audit reports.

Your qualifications must include MB, ChB or BM, with BS, BAO and BCH, GMC registration or eligibility and good standing with that of any other equivalent professional body. You must have a substantial Primary Care (General Practice) Postgraduate history with recent experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The ideal candidate will also have Anaesthetics experience; however, this is not essential. The role will be challenging and at times demanding, and will require flexibility. The above is intended only as a guide, and may be modified to meet changing needs.

We offer an extensive benefits package, with 30 days’ leave per annum and which may include a contributory pension plus generous, income-tax-free allowances for relocation, rent and utilities. An application form can be found at: www.sthelenacareers.com where further information can also be found, or you may contact Kedell Worboys, telephone: 020 3170 8705 or email: shgukrep@sthelenagov.com

Applications must be received by 30th December 2012. Interviews will be held in London.
