Consultant Regional Epidemiologist   (Post suitable for both Consultant Medical and
Non-Medical AfC Band 8d Appointment)   £65,270 to £100,446 per annum   Consultant or NHS
Agenda for Change Band 8d   Victoria, London   Full time 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) or
37.5 hours per week (Applicants for part time, job share or flexible working will be considered)

The Health Protection Agency exists to help protect the health of everyone in the United Kingdom; our ambition is to
lead the way by identifying, preparing for and responding to health threats and setting standards for health protection.
The Agency was established as a special health authority in 2003. On 1 April 2005, the Agency was established as a
non-departmental public body with radiation protection as part of health protection incorporated in its remit.
The HPA will become part of Public Health England in April 2013.

We are seeking a skilled professional to provide leadership and enthusiasm as we move in to Public Health England
and refocus on key public health and health protection priorities for the future.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled epidemiologist to work in our team. The post holder will provide
leadership to the regional epidemiology function in London and the south east of England. We want the post holder to
further develop the fi eld epidemiology service in the south east as we make this transition and beyond. There will be
opportunities to develop a national expert role to support initiatives across the whole of the HPA’s work in HPS and PHE.
The post holder will be based at the HPA London and SE regional offi ces in central London, but will actively support the
eight Health Protection Units in London and SE and work closely with NHS partners and other colleagues in the wider
health economy.

Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register or UK Voluntary Register for Public Health Specialists and have
training and appropriate experience of health protection practice and epidemiology.

The successful candidate will be appointed to the point of the Consultant salary scale appropriate to their years of
seniority or if from a background other than medicine to Agenda for Change Band 8d.
