Medical Consultant Epidemiologist, Immunisation and Hepatitis £74,504 - £100,446
per annum Colindale, North West London Full time 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week

The Health Protection Agency exists to help protect the health of everyone in the United Kingdom; our ambition is to lead the way by identifying, preparing for and responding to health threats and setting standards for health protection. The Agency was established as a special health authority in 2003. On 1 April 2005, the Agency was established as a non-departmental public body with radiation protection as part of health protection incorporated in its remit. The HPA will become part of Public Health England in April 2013.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Immunisation, Hepatitis and Blood Safety Department.
The principal functions of the post include development and oversight of surveillance of hepatitis and vaccine preventable diseases, provision of clinical and public health advice on the management of outbreaks and cases of vaccine preventable diseases and hepatitis (including advice on use of prophylactic immunoglobulins), teaching and training and the development and conduct of relevant research.
You must have (or be eligible to attain) a registrable medical qualifi cation and be included in the GMC Specialist Register in Public Health Medicine, Microbiology or Infectious Disease Medicine. If your training has not been in public health medicine, you must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health medicine practice. You must also have a MFPH or equivalent by examination, exemption or assessment. The appointee should be experienced in infectious disease epidemiology and be computer literate. You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work as part of and lead a team.
Health Protection Services Colindale, NW London, is an internationally renowned centre of excellence for expertise, reference microbiology, research, surveillance and epidemiology in relation to human health, working directly and indirectly at the local, regional, national and international level. The modern purpose built centre is well equipped and provides excellent Library, Occupational Health and Refectory facilities. There is also a gym on site.
The successful candidate will be appointed to the point of the Consultant salary scale appropriate to your years of seniority.
