Kent Health Protection Unit
£74,504 - £100,446 per annum
Full time 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week (Applicants for job share, part-time or flexible working will be considered)
The Health Protection Agency exists to help protect the health of everyone in the United Kingdom; our ambition is to lead the way by identifying, preparing for and responding to health threats and setting standards for health protection. The Agency was established as a special health authority in 2003. On 1 April 2005, the Agency was established as a nondepartmental public body with radiation protection as part of health protection incorporated in its remit. The HPA will become part of Public Health England in April 2013.
This is an opportunity to join the multidisciplinary team in the Kent Health Protection Unit. This is a replacement permanent post for a CCDC who is retiring and is one of three WTE CCDC posts in the unit (including the Unit Director post). The post will be based at Ashford in Kent. In April 2013 HPU staff will transfer into the new Public Health England Centre for Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
The Unit serves a diverse population of around 1.7 million and covers 13 local authorities. It works closely with colleagues in local partner organisations including Primary Care Trusts, Acute Trusts, prisons and local authorities.
The post holder will contribute to the full range of health protection work in the Unit. The successful candidate will provide specialist advice and leadership on health protection locally, including leading the Unit’s strategic work on one or more of the key national health protection areas.
The successful candidate will be appointed to the consultant scale appropriate to their years of seniority.
Prospective candidates are invited to contact Dr James Sedgwick, Interim Unit Director on 0844 2257968.
