VICE DEAN FOR CLINICAL AFFAIRS

PROFESSORS IN MEDICINE, SURGERY, PAEDIATRICS, OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY, PSYCHIATRY, AND PRIMARY CARE

TAIPING MEDICAL COLLEGE, MALAYSIA.

Taiping Medical College is a partnership of University College Cork (UCC), National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) and the Allianze University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS), which is designed to deliver Clinical Medical Education in Taiping, Penang. This is part of a twinning degree programme, with the first 5 semesters delivered in Ireland and the second in Malaysia, leading to the awarding of NUI degrees in Medicine.

Applications are invited for these posts at Taiping College of Medicine, Taiping, Malaysia, on a fixed-term, whole-time basis.

The Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs (2 year appointment) will be a key member of the Senior Management team and will provide clinical leadership to the organization and its affiliates. The appointment will be at professorial level reporting to the Foundation Dean.

In conjunction with the Foundation Dean, administration, and senior academic clinicians, the Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs will take a leadership role in ensuring that the Taiping Medical College develops into a first class academic institution by international standards. He/she will be responsible for the quality, relevance and operational aspects of the College’s undergraduate clinical programme.

The Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs will be an active and visible participant in the context of collaborative interactions and initiatives with clinical staff and all senior managements oficials of AUCMS and NUIG/UCC. He/She will build longlasting relationships with supporting organizations as well as being a knowledgeable and effective spokesperson in the community.

Professorial appointees (3 year appointments) will be expected to demonstrate excellence in education, research, leadership and organization within their discipline. He/She will be expected to apply innovative teaching and learning methodologies within the Taiping Medical College and in accordance with the expectations of all relevant accrediting bodies. He/she will foster and facilitate the establishment of productive research and scholarship and contribute to the advancement of knowledge, participate in research activities and publish the research in appropriate peer-reviewed publications. Some clinical duties are available but not essential.

Minimum Qualifications To qualify one must have a medical degree from an accredited medical school with an active, unrestricted license to practice (registered or entitled to register with the Irish Medical Council), strong clinical competency; distinction in educational scholarly activities; knowledge of the clinical research process including comparative effectiveness and clinical trials; and experience in collaborative or large integrated projects. In addition, candidates must have a doctorate or appropriate professional qualification i.e. have completed specialist training in their relevant discipline and/or a significant record of research and publication in their relevant discipline.

Professorial Salary scale: 300,000 Malaysian Ringgit per annum and fringe benefits.
