Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

If you want to be part of a small, supported and happy team of four specialists that works well together, then you have to consider Taranaki as your next place to live and work. This position will suit a newly qualified or experienced Consultant and we will consider part time or full time requests.

The specialists main duties will include:

  • Theatre sessions
  • Outpatients Gynaecology session
  • Ward rounds
  • Labour ward rounds that include teaching tutorials, audit activity and supervision
  • Antenatal clinics
  • Colposcopy
  • Participation on the on-call roster

The specialists work a 1:4 on-call roster and are supported by a Medical Officer, Registrar and House Officer. A local General Practitioner provides part time out of hours cover to support a 1:4 on-call roster for the Resident Doctors. You will have responsibility for some in-patient and community clinics and provided the opportunity for teaching and supervising Junior Medical Staff.

Taranaki Base Hospital is a regional centre serving a population of 105,000, has 215 beds and is located in New Plymouth, the major city of the beautiful Taranaki Province. The maternity arm of our hospital comprises of a six bed delivery suite with four adjoining antenatal beds, as well as 14 post-natal beds.

The department is accredited for O&G training by the RANZCOG and hosts a College appointed Registrar throughout the year.
