LANCASHIRE TEACHING HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
Department of Undergraduate Medical Education
MEDICAL EDUCATION AND SIMULATION FELLOWSHIPS
12 months
Reference: MS1272
Building on the success of last year’s intake; the Department of Undergraduate Medical Education at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (LTHTR) has a further opening for two Medical Education and Simulation Training Fellowship positions. These are exciting opportunities for trainees in ST2 grades and above in any Medical or Surgical specialties or General Practice. These posts are for 12 months from February 2013 (start date pending satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks) until February 2014. In addition to academic sessions these posts will have 1 – 1.5 days a week clinical commitments.
LTHTR is one of the teaching sectors in the Manchester Medical School taking up to 240 students each year from years 3 – 5 of MBBS programme. We have a state of the art ‘Northwest Simulation Centre’ actively delivering Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Allied Health Professional Simulation Training.
This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated trainees with a passion for Medical Education and/or Simulation, who want to join a team of Educationalists with a major focus on the Undergraduate Medical Education. All trainees in appropriate grades are encouraged to apply, but it would be ideal if you have finished your examinations in the parent specialty. In this post the trainees will be involved with Simulation, Assessment, Teaching, Personal and Professional Development, E-Learning and Research and Evaluation in the field of Medical Education. The appointees will be supported (funded) and encouraged to enrol on higher degree programmes in Medical Education or Leadership etc.
These appointments can be counted as an ‘Out of Programme Experience’ (OOPE). This will be subject to parent Deanery support and prospective approval. The salary scale will be at the applicants’ current NHS salary level. Again a possibility of on-call commitments and banding payments exists subject to appointees’ level of experience, desire to do on-call work and parent directorates’ out of hours service requirements.
For informal enquiries and arrangements to meet current postholders please contact Dr Kamran Khan, email: Kamran.Khan@lthtr.nhs.uk
To apply please access the NHS Jobs website: www.jobs.nhs.uk you will find the relevant documentation under Lancashire Teaching Hospitals – MS1272.
If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure. As a registered body with the CRB, LTHTR will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over three months. Currently the charge made by the Criminal Records Bureau for an Enhanced CRB check is £44.00. Closing date: 14th September 2012.
