Applications are invited for a full time Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in Community and Behavioural Paediatrics at Southend University Hospital. This is a newly created post with the purpose to providing Community and General Paediatric Care for children in the Southend area.

 Although this post is contractually with the Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the main duties and responsibilities are closely integrated with services provided in both the hospital and the community setting. The main base would be at Southend University Hospital with Clinics being held within the area. The Paediatric Department serves a child population of 68,000 in South East Essex. The aim of the Service is to provide excellence in Child Care, with a clear focus on the child and family. The Service has a Child Development Centre located in the community, bringing together Health, Social Services, Education and the Voluntary Sectors for Children with Complex Needs. The Services are of high quality, evidenced by regular Audit, and all Medical and Nursing Practice is well-founded upon the latest available research. The Department has a strong commitment to training and personal development of all staff, and Continuing Medical Education is supported by the Trust.

 Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is linked to the London University and is also the Cancer Centre for South Essex, which is part of the Essex Cancer network. This busy District General Hospital (DGH) serves a population of 330,000. We currently employ approximately 3,782 Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) staff with a total complement of 164 Consultant staff, and we are situated in the South East of England, with excellent rail links to London. The Trust has an excellent Postgraduate Medical Centre which carries a full programme of events and offers access to a Medical Library.
