About Us
We are one of the largest Health Boards in Wales, with around 17,000 staff serving a population of approximately 600,000 covering the areas of Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot and Swansea.
We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. We have four main acute hospitals, a range of community hospitals and clinics, and also primary health care, i.e. GPs, dentists, pharmacies and ophthalmologists.
We are also responsible for Mental Health services, both in-patient and community-based. ABM is also home to the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery.
A great benefits package
Employees of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board enjoy a wide range of benefits and services.
Work Life Balance and Family Friendly Policies
We understand the importance of having a healthy work life balance. Flexible working practices are encouraged and available to all employees.
Childcare facilities are provided on four sites with creche facilities at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend and also at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, Singleton Hospital and Morriston Hospital (facilities at Singleton and Morriston Hospital are provided by private companies).
In partnership with Bridgend College Day Nursery, ABM has agreed to provide assistance for staff who wish their children to participate in the holiday playscheme during school holidays. The playscheme is available to children between the ages of 4 and 8 for up to 50 children, during school holidays, with the exception of Christmas and is open between 8.00 am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Further information can be gained from the Equality and Diversity Manager, at ABM Headquarters.
Childcare Voucher Scheme (Salary Sacrifice Scheme)
ABM is able to offer a Childcare Voucher Scheme which provides vouchers to parents as part of the Government's initiative to improve parents working lives. The scheme is managed and administered by Busy Bees. Each parent is entitled to request up to £55 per week or £243 per month to be deducted from their salary to be converted into child care vouchers to pay for the care of children up to the age of 16 years.
The benefit to the parent is in terms of the voucher value being non taxable and exempt from NI contributions. The system is based on 'salary sacrifice' which may have an effect on retirement or ill health pension, death in service lump sum, initial widow/er's pension if taken in the last three years of service.
Lifesavers Credit Union
ABM supports a Credit Union, which is a financial co-operative, owned and controlled by its members on a non profit-making basis. It functions through the accumulation of members savings creating a fund of money, which is then used to offer a source of credit to members at a low rate of interest. All employees of ABM and members of their immediate family are eligible for membership. A dividend is paid annually, plus there are free insurances on savings and loans.
Occupational Health
ABM's Occupational Health service provides a professional high quality, efficient and impartial advisory service to all staff. It aims to improve and optimise staff and organisational health, through health protection and promotion, identification of hazards and risks and health assessment. Whilst pre-employment screening and assisting managers with managing absence are key components of the service, the department also promotes a confidential self referral system for work related issues to all staff.
Accommodation
We understand the importance of providing accessible accommodation to staff, especially those who move to join us. Staff accommodation is available at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend, Singleton Hospital and Morriston Hospital in Swansea.
Annual Leave Entitlement
The NHS rewards its staff with a generous annual leave entitlement. On commencement with the NHS, staff will receive paid leave of 27 days. After 5 years service this entitlement increases to 29 days and to 33 days after 10 years service. These entitlements are in addition to 8 bank holidays. (This entitlement is pro rata for part time staff and excludes medical and dental staff who have separate arrangements).
NHS Pension Scheme
The NHS Pension Scheme is an important and valuable benefit for people working in the NHS.- The NHS Pension Scheme is a final salary pension scheme
- Pensions and allowances are fully index linked to protect their value. Benefits are guaranteed and are based on your pay and membership of the Scheme.
