Help us maintain high medical standards

PLAB Examiners

The GMC is looking for practising clinicians, of consultant grade, to act as examiners for Part 2 of the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test. This examination is taken at the GMC Clinical Assessment Centre in Manchester.

We are the independent regulator for doctors in the UK. Our purpose is to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public by ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine.

The Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test is the main route by which international medical graduates demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to practise medicine in the UK. This role requires a commitment of at least five days a year, including a compulsory training day in London or Manchester.

You must be fully registered with a licence to practise and have a reasonable expectation that you will maintain this status for at least the next five years. You must be in good standing with the GMC and the relevant College or Faculty. You should be a consultant in one of the following specialities: Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Surgery (any branch) or General Practice (GP principal). Knowledge of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) would be an advantage. Your integrity, impartiality, sound judgment and high professional standards will all be essential attributes. Above all, you will need genuine enthusiasm for the role.

As part of our commitment to diversity, we seek candidates from a wide range of backgrounds and actively encourage applicants from BME doctors, women and doctors with a disability.

We offer a daily fee of £310 with reasonable expenses and the flexibility necessary for you to fulfil your other commitments.

Please visit to find out more and apply.

Closing date: 22 August 2012.
