£65,270 - £100,446 per annum
Full time 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) or 37.5 hours per week

The Health Protection Agency exists to help protect the health of everyone in the United Kingdom; our ambition is to lead the way by identifying, preparing for and responding to health threats and setting standards for health protection. The Agency was established as a special health authority in 2003. On 1 April 2005, the Agency was established as a non-departmental public body with radiation protection as part of health protection incorporated in its remit. The HPA will become part of Public Health England in April 2013.
This post is one of two Regional Epidemiologist posts who, supported by a team of administrative/clerical staff, have a key role in identifying, preparing for and responding to health threats such as outbreaks, environmental hazards, and natural and man-made disasters in the North West, as well as in maintaining and developing infectious disease surveillance systems. The successful candidate will work jointly alongside the existing Regional Epidemiologist to provide leadership to ensure the effective functioning of the Regional Epidemiology Unit to deliver excellent field epidemiology and surveillance services to partners at local, regional and national level.
The successful candidate will be appointed to the point of the Consultant salary scale appropriate to their years of seniority or if from a background other than medicine to Agenda for Change Band 8d.
