Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position in Environmental Medicine


The Department of Environmental Medicine, Kochi Medical School, invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professorship. The successful applicant should conduct research related to the development of innovative diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic approaches for environmental and occupational diseases.


Qualifications and job description

The candidate should have a PhD degree (obtained within the last 10 years, as of 1st October 2012) in Environmental Medicine, Public Health, International Health or Paediatrics. All nationalities are welcome; however, the applicant should be fluent in English and be willing to learn Japanese (MD holders are preferred but not necessary). Monthly salary will be 300,000–500,000 JPY for five years’ Tenure-track position. He/she is expected to lead a new independent research group and, from the second year of employment, he/she will start teaching and mentoring Under and Postgraduate Students.


Kochi Medical School is one of the 15 regional centres of the Japan Environment and Children’s Study (JECS), launched in 2012 to follow up 100,000 babies for a 13 year period. The endpoints of the project include: Reproductive Health, Birth Defects, Mental/Neuronal Development and Immunity and Endocrine Disorders. Participation in ongoing research projects at the Centre for Innovative and Translational Medicine is also required.
