Clinical Research Fellow in Emergency Medicine/Trauma/Critical Care

Clinical Lecturer Pay Scale: £35,596 - £46,708 pa

Applicants are invited from suitable doctors in training who wish to gain experience in research. This post has been created as part of the NISCHR £1.5m continuing investment to facilitate and develop a Biomedical translational research programme within South Wales. This post will be suitable for either pre or post specialist training, or for those wanting to do a period of out-ofprogramme training in biomedical research. For those suitable candidates there is an opportunity to progress their research into a Higher Degree.

The Biomedical Research Unit is a multidisciplinary network composed of a collaboration between Swansea Colleges of Medicine and Engineering, and the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board and is based at Morriston Hospital. The Unit is supported by the Centre for Nanohealth which is situated at the new prestigious £70m development of an Institute of Life Science 2 at Swansea University College of Medicine.

The main emphasis of this translational research programme is the development of new biomarkers to determine how acute injury and its treatment strategies affect haemostasis and clinical outcome. This post is suitable for those wishing to develop a career in Emergency Medicine, Trauma, Critical Care or other Surgical specialties.

Clinical training and clinical commitment will be accommodated around the needs of the individual’s career pathway for their speciality. GMC approval will be requested for recognition of the clinical component of this research post during the period of employment if the successful candidate wishes to have the clinical component credited towards their higher training. The successful candidate will have nominated clinical and academic supervisors to advise and monitor both their clinical and academic progress and development. It is advisable to contact both your current educational and/or clinical supervisor(s) prior to applying for this post.

All candidates must have full GMC Registration and ideally have completed training up to ST3 or above in one of the previously mentioned specialties.
