ISLE OF WIGHT NHS TRUST
CONSULTANT PHYSICIAN
CARE OF THE ELDERLY
with a special interest in Stroke
Reference: 296-12-046-SM
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Physician in Care of the Elderly with an interest in Stroke at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. The postholder will play a pivotal role in the management and further development of Elderly Care and Stroke Services within the Trust and Community, working closely with colleagues to develop an efficient, high quality service for patients. The responsibilities of the 10 Programmed Activities post currently cover several areas: Acute Stroke including Thrombolysis, Stroke Rehabilitation and Care of some Acute Medical Inpatient beds.
There are Clinics in General Care of the Elderly, but subspecialty interests that support the Trust’s Strategy could be developed. The post includes a 1:11 unselected Medical on-call commitment. The Isle of Wight NHS Trust provides a wide range of services for the local population of some 132,000, a figure that doubles during summer months. Here is an opportunity to combine a challenging and fulfilling role in an environment that offers excellent quality of life and a healthy work-life balance.
The Isle of Wight has world-class sailing facilities and good beaches; most of the Island is semi-rural with miles of unspoilt bridleways through National Trust woods and chalk downland, offering spectacular coastal walks in areas of outstanding natural beauty. House prices compare favourably with those elsewhere in South East England. Schooling, in both Public and Private Sectors, is to a high standard. There are also rapid and frequent ferry/rail links with Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington. London can be reached in 90 minutes by rail from Southampton or Portsmouth.
Applicants should be on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register for Care of the Elderly, or within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training by the interview date. Experience in providing Thrombolysis for Acute Strokes would be desirable. Those unable, for personal reasons, to work full time are eligible to be considered for this post.
