An exciting new opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified candidates to join our NHS Foundation Trust. We are one of the largest providers of healthcare in the area offering new ‘state of the art’ facilities, with a complement of over 1100 beds for a local population of 390,000 and a regional population of 1.5 million.

Candidates with dual training in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases or sole training in either speciality are invited to apply to join the current team of 3.9 Consultants and 1 Consultant Clinical Scientist in virology, providing a comprehensive Infection Service to the Trust and local GPs.

This post is especially aimed at extending the clinical consultation and antibiotic management roles including an evolving OPAT service at both the Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites. Some variation in job plan to potentially include outpatient sessions in management of blood borne virus infection, depending on applicants training and experience, can be arranged.

There will be opportunities to participate in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching and collaborate in research activities. The laboratory is fully CPA accredited and processes over 500,000 specimens annually. The department is an HPA collaborating laboratory and the Trust hosts the NW Food Water and Environmental Laboratory.

You will be based at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (2 hospitals) with 994 beds serving a population of approximately 390,000 people and active links with the University of Central Lancashire and Manchester University. The hospitals are located in the heart of Lancashire’s glorious countryside, affording the opportunity to work in a delightful region of startling contrast, from areas of great beauty to more cosmopolitan city attractions, all of which are within easy reach of major motorways.

Currently the charges made by the Criminal Records Bureau are - Standard CRB check £26.00 and Enhanced CRB check £44.00. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered.
