SPECIALTY DOCTOR OLDER ADULT’S MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

The Trust is investing in new facilities, staffed by committed professionals who share a vision of service development based on clinical excellence.

 There is a full time Specialty Doctor post in Old Age Psychiatry, covering both Acute Inpatient and Community work, on-call work is not a requirement for this post. The Trust’s MHSOP aims to support those members of the older population and their families, in both Community and inpatient settings of Doncaster, who have enduring Mental Health problems.

Our aim is to provide high quality Health and Social Care Services, using a multidisciplinary approach, which is tailored to meet the individual needs of our clients and their families/carers. Working in partnership with other local Healthcare, Social Care, Independent and Voluntary Organisations the Service offers flexible care that responds to the needs of our patients. Services vary from Home Support, Day Care and Outpatient Services to Community Specialist Services and Acute Inpatient Assessment, providing a complete Mental Health Service. The Trust’s Mental Health Services for Older People are primarily based at the St Catherine’s site at Balby, Doncaster, but are also provided at several community settings in and around Doncaster. Access to Mental Health Services for Older People is through the Single Point of Access based with the Community Mental Health Team.

The routine workload is within one sector (East), with one full time Consultant Psychiatrist (who will be the Clinical Supervisor) and a dedicated CMHT supporting that sector. The postholder will also support the Memory Service across all four sectors. This is a split post covering East sector for two and half days and Memory Clinic for two days.

Applicants must have four years’ full time Postgraduate Training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a Specialty Training Programme in a relevant specialty, or as a fixed term Specialty Trainee in a relevant specialty, or shall have evidence of equivalent experience and competencies. Section 12(2) approval or eligibility for approval is desirable along with a driving licence and access to a vehicle. Consideration may be given to appointment at a lower level depending upon experience.
