Based at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth
Applications are invited for joining the Department of Cellular Pathology based at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth following retirement of one colleague and relocation of another for family reasons.
You will join a team of 10.4 whole time equivalent General Cellular Pathologists, providing a varied and interesting Diagnostic Service. These are General Pathology posts but you will have experience or develop an interest in Gastrointestinal Pathology. There is an opportunity in the Department to reorganise areas of special interest and interested candidates are encouraged to contact Dr Dean Harmse (Head of Department) to discuss the options.
The Cellular and Anatomical Pathology Department of Derriford Hospital provides CPA – accredited modern laboratory facilities. The workload is diverse commensurate with Derriford Hospital’s status as a Regional Cancer and Renal Transplant Centre, supporting all Services except Paediatric and Bone Pathology.
Specialist Trainees rotate through the Department and there is an active teaching programme. Derriford Hospital is a Teaching Hospital that forms part of the Peninsula Medical School, providing opportunities for participating in Undergraduate Teaching.
Plymouth has great maritime attractions and the area is one of outstanding natural beauty, offering moorland and coastal environments. There is a wide range of urban and village accommodation, excellent state and private schools and extensive opportunities for sporting and other leisure activities, all providing potential for an excellent quality of life.
The posts are advertised as full time posts with standard ten Programmed Activities contracts, with no on-call service commitment. Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will also be eligible to be considered for the posts.
Applicants must hold the FRCPath (or equivalent qualification) and be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or be within six months of attainment of the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.
