Applications are invited for this full time post of Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology with General Internal Medicine (10 Programmed Activities). We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual whose interests complement those of the Department at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust. You will join a strong, close working team of three full time Consultants and three part time Consultants to deliver services in Diabetes and Endocrinology across West Hertfordshire. The post is based at Watford General Hospital. The postholder will take part in the Acute on-call medical rota on an equal basis with other specialty Physicians (currently 1 in 23), and will provide cover to inpatients as part of a shared rota with colleagues of 1 month in 5.
Since April 2009, all Acute Medicine has been centralised in a large, new, Acute Admissions Unit at Watford General Hospital. The site is also central to the proposed new Watford Health Campus, a multi-million- pound Private Finance Initiative (PFI) development planned for 2014. The integrated West Hertfordshire Community Diabetes Service was launched in 2009, and the postholder will have an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the further development and delivery of this modern service. Outpatient clinics are based in Hemel Hempstead and in Watford. A new dedicated Diabetes Centre is planned for completion in June 2012.
You will be supported by a superb dynamic team of seven Diabetes Specialist Nurses and two Endocrine Specialist Nurses within the Acute Trust, along with Specialist Podiatrists and Dieticians. The Community Specialist Team comprises an additional seven Diabetes Specialist Nurses and two Specialist Diabetes Dieticians.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in an active Departmental Research Programme, and will also be strongly encouraged to take a leading role in Medical Education. We have a strong commitment to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.
Watford General Hospital is within a 20 minute train journey from Central London. All main hospital sites have excellent rail links and lie close to the M25 and M1 motorways. There are excellent local schools and the surrounding rural area is extremely attractive.
Applicants must hold MRCP (UK) or equivalent, and be on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register (or within six months of attaining the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent) in G(I)M and Diabetes and Endocrinology at the time of interview.
