THE MID WESTERN REGIONAL HOSPITAL LIMERICK
The Mid Western Regional Hospital Limerick, academic teaching hospital, has
established training links with the University of Limerick and University College
Cork. Limerick, situated on the banks of the river Shannon, is a bustling and
vibrant destination and is a great base for exploring the excellent surrounding
sights and is just a 15 minute drive from Shannon International Airport. It is a
renowned sporting city, famous for its love of rugby and home to the iconic
Thomond Park Stadium. Lahinch, a premier surfing resort, is 50 minutes drive
from the hospital. The University of Limerick campus boasts a 50m Olympic

The hospital is the regional trauma centre hospital serving a population of
378,410 in the mid west. It is the second busiest emergency department in
Ireland with annual attendances of around 61,000 new presentations. Our
emergency department is a modern, well-equipped facility with an adjacent
short stay unit. A bespoke new ED is currently under construction. The
fellowship posts are available in observational emergency medicine, geriatric
emergency medicine and pre-hospital care systems and accreditation is
through the Graduate Entry Medical School at the University of Limerick and
governance is through the Retrieval, Emergency and Disaster Medicine
Research and Development Unit (REDSPoT). The emergency department is
accredited for the maximum 24 months advanced training in emergency
medicine and 12 months of basic specialist training.
Those interested will benefit from exposure to both clinical and laboratory
work with participation in a joint haematology/oncology rota. The post provides
an ideal opportunity for those candidates who are interested in gaining entry
onto the SpR programme and pursuing a career in haematology.
Infectious Diseases (ID)
This unique registrar post can be tailored to suit the needs of enthusiastic
candidates considering a career in infectious diseases or clinical microbiology.

the vibrant Department of Medicine.
Exciting opportunities exist for SHOs in the Department of Medicine with a new
model of care being rolled out for acute medical patients in the region.
